Cyprus First Lady Explains Absence from Parliament Committee - 'No Irregularities in Social Support Agency'

The First Lady of Cyprus, Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, sent a letter to the Parliament's Control Committee explaining the reasons for her absence from the meeting regarding the Social Support Agency. Her absence is due to her chairing a committee within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the EU. In her letter, the First Lady clarifies that she is submitting her positions in writing to assist the Committee's work and states her readiness to attend a future session if necessary. The Control Committee proceeded with the discussion of the Auditor General's report on the Agency, which was characterized by intense controversy. In the annex to her letter, Ms. Christodoulides details her positions regarding the operation of the Agency, responding to questions raised. It is noted that the First Lady had informed the Management Committee in good time of her decision to step down from the presidency, as provided for by law. Her continued presidency had become incompatible with her role, given that the Agency operates as a social tool of particular importance. The letter emphasizes that Parliament had been fully informed of the legal framework and rules of operation of the Agency, and all relevant information is publicly available on its website. It is also pointed out that no irregularities or illegalities were found in the operation of the Agency, which was under continuous institutional and financial control.
