Cyprus EU Presidency Prioritizes Education, Youth, and Sports

The Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union prioritizes Education, Youth, and Sports, promoting a comprehensive and student-centered approach. In these areas, the Presidency focuses on negotiations for the Erasmus+ Regulation, strengthening the prestige and professional protection of teachers, developing basic skills, and integrating emerging technologies. It also emphasizes building trust among young people towards the EU and evaluating EU policies in terms of their friendliness and effectiveness for young people. In sports, the priorities are sports tourism as a driver of sustainable development and physical activity for health, with an emphasis on active aging and mental health. The Presidency promotes the Mediterranean dimension in sports and two resolutions will be proposed for the youth sector. The EU Youth Conference in Nicosia, in March 2026, will mark the completion of the 11th cycle of the EU Youth Dialogue. The participation of schools and educators is important for the success of the initiatives.
