Cyprus Emphasizes EU Autonomy, Supports Ukraine at European Parliament

Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos presented the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency to the European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET), emphasizing the need for European autonomy, not as isolation, but as a means of protecting the security, borders, and citizens of the EU, as well as reducing strategic dependencies. In an era of increasing crises, the EU must strengthen its partnerships and become more geopolitically engaged. Cyprus considers Ukraine a top priority, recognizing the attack on its sovereignty and territorial integrity, a situation Cyprus knows well due to its own division. Furthermore, the Cypriot Presidency is committed to the rapid completion of the disbursement of a €90 billion loan to Ukraine and strengthening transatlantic relations.
