Cyprus Dams at Critical Lows - 'Tragic Water Inflow'

Water inflow to Cyprus' dams is at a tragically low level, with only 1.7 million cubic meters recorded since October 1st. Dam levels are continuously decreasing as consumption exceeds inflow. A mean inflow of 10-12 million cubic meters is needed to improve the situation, while the 30-35 year average is 13 million. Despite increased rainfall in coastal areas, the lack of rain in the mountains and dam catchments exacerbates the problem. This year marks the fourth consecutive drought, and authorities are urging the public to use water sparingly as climate change is expected to worsen the situation.
