Cyprus Braces for Storm Damage: Fire Department Responds to Numerous Incidents

The Cyprus Fire Service recorded 43 responses across the island due to severe weather conditions from morning until 5:30 PM. The incidents primarily involved fallen trees, detached objects, water pumping, and sparking power lines. Larnaca province reported the highest number of incidents with 18, followed by Famagusta with 14, Limassol with 9, Nicosia with 8, and Paphos with 3. In Nicosia, incidents included water pumping, fallen trees, vehicle towing, and sparking power lines. In Famagusta, in addition to the above, there were also detached objects, with 14 incidents occurring in the Paralimni – Deryneia area and 5 sparking power lines from the EAC. In Paphos, most responses involved water pumping, fallen trees, and sparking power lines. In Larnaca, six trees fell, six objects were detached, and five power lines sparked. In Limassol, the Fire Service dealt with fallen trees, detached objects (including scaffolding and warehouses), and sparking power lines. The EMAK responded to an incident of a fallen tree in the Kofinou area.
