Cypriot Set Designer and Art Professor Kostas Kavkaridis Passes Away

Cypriot set designer and art professor Kostas Kavkaridis passed away on January 20, 2026, at the age of 80. Kavkaridis was born in Pallouriotissa in 1945 and graduated from Terra Santa College in 1964. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria, and returned to Cyprus in 1972, where he collaborated with the Cyprus Theatre Organisation. He was married to archaeologist Panagiota Koukkoulli-Kavkaridi and had two sons. He was renowned for founding the Neos Theatro Vladimiros Kavkaridis and the Satiriko Theatre, as well as for his pioneering work and contribution to theatrical cooperation between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. He served as an art teacher in secondary education and was the author of the book 'Kostas Kavkaridis: 50 Years of Set Design'.
