The film 'Hold Onto Me' by Cypriot director Myrsini Aristidou will have its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival 2026, in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section. This is the first time a Cypriot feature film has been selected for the festival, marking a historic event for Cypriot cinema. The film is the third part of an informal trilogy by Aristidou, following her short films 'Semeli' and 'Aria', and focuses on the father-daughter relationship. The story takes place in a coastal landscape of Cyprus and follows 11-year-old Irida, who is searching for her estranged father. The director utilizes the Cypriot landscapes to capture the atmosphere of the story, emphasizing decay, slow time, and the underlying emotions of the characters. Her approach is minimalist and sensitive, focusing on the experiential dimension of absence and the need for connection. The film stars Maria Petrova as Irida and Christos Passalis as her father, Aris. 'Hold Onto Me' is an international co-production between Cyprus, Greece, Denmark, and the United States, highlighting the growing international recognition of Cypriot cinema.
