Cypriot Antiquity Repatriated from France After Being Found for Sale at Auction

A significant Cypriot antiquity, a kylix from the Bichrome III pottery of the Cypro-Geometric III period (900-750 BC), has been repatriated to Cyprus from France. The artifact was discovered for sale in an online auction and withdrawn after communication between the Department of Antiquities and the auction house. The kylix is characterized by two handles and black-figure decoration, with vertical lines framing a swastika on each side externally and bands internally. The discovery and repatriation represent a success for the Cypriot authorities in their efforts to protect cultural heritage. The Department of Antiquities expressed its gratitude to the Nabécor Enchères auction house, the donors who voluntarily returned the artifact, and the Embassy of Cyprus in Paris for their cooperation and coordination throughout the repatriation process. The antiquity was delivered to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Paris on December 19, 2025.
