Convictions in Greek Wiretapping Scandal Linked to Cyprus Spy Van Case

The Single Misdemeanor Court of Athens sentenced four defendants in the wiretapping case to a total prison sentence of 126 years and 8 months, with a serving sentence of 8 years, while their connection to the wiretapping scandal in Cyprus and the spy van in Larnaca is being investigated. The defendants, Tal Dilian, Felix Bitsios, Yannis Lavranos, and Sarah Alexandra Hamou, were found guilty of misdemeanor offenses related to interference with personal data and violation of the privacy of telephone communications. The wiretapping case is linked to the “spy van” scandal in Larnaca, where Tal Dilian, founder of the Intellexa Group, was a central figure. Bitsios and Lavranos are also involved in corporate schemes linked to Intellexa and Predator, while Hamou is alleged to have played a role in companies related to Cyprus. Dilian, a former intelligence officer, is considered the main responsible for the network of surveillance companies. Bitsios was linked to companies related to the sale of Predator, while Lavranos is alleged to have played a role in companies connected to the same software. Hamou appears to reside permanently in Limassol and have connections with the Intellexa network. The case has caused intense political controversy in Greece and Cyprus, as it concerns the violation of privacy and the monitoring of political figures and journalists. The investigation of criminal responsibilities continues, with the prosecution requesting the transmission of copies of the case file for further investigation.
