Colorectal Cancer Awareness

On the occasion of European Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the Cyprus Gastroenterological Society is raising awareness about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis. Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in Cyprus, with approximately 350-400 new cases annually. The disease can be prevented and treated effectively, especially in its early stages. Significant risk factors include an unhealthy diet, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and family history. Colonoscopy is the most reliable method for prevention and diagnosis. The Cyprus Gastroenterological Society recommends adopting healthy habits and undergoing preventive screening with colonoscopy from the age of 50.
