CMP: 12 Individuals Identified and 20 Located This Year

So far this year, the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) has identified 12 individuals from the official list of missing persons, while remains of 20 individuals have been located in eight excavations, stated Leonidas Pantelidis, Greek Cypriot representative of the CMP. He added that further identifications are expected in 2026. Mr. Pantelidis emphasized the importance of the flow of information to the CMP, noting that every detail can help identify burial sites. He mentioned that this year's excavations were carried out in approximately 20% more locations compared to last year, with eight of them yielding findings. The CMP currently has the capacity for nine teams, working on eight excavations. Mr. Pantelidis reiterated the call to the public to provide any information that may assist in the search for missing persons. The identification process is time-consuming, but the CMP continues to work at a steady pace. The successful outcome of the excavations and the identification of missing persons represent a significant step towards providing hope to families and restoring the truth about past events. The CMP remains committed to its mission, despite the difficulties and challenges it faces.
