Chevron Accelerates Exploration South of Crete, Aims for Seismic Surveys by 2026

Chevron is accelerating hydrocarbon exploration in Greece, aiming to conduct seismic surveys south of Crete by the end of 2026. This was the outcome of a meeting between the Minister of Environment and Energy Stavros Papastavrou and Deputy Minister Nikos Tsafos with a delegation from Chevron in Houston, on the sidelines of the CERAWeek conference. The meeting is part of an effort to accelerate research and attract major energy groups, at a time when Europe is seeking alternative energy sources. Mr. Papastavrou stated that a clear timeline was set and the necessary actions were initiated for the seismic surveys. The Minister linked the developments to the international situation, emphasizing that the crisis in the Middle East confirms the government's choice to develop the hydrocarbon sector, with the aim of the country's energy independence. According to Mr. Papastavrou, Greece is upgrading its geopolitical role and building an energy-secure future.
