Burial of Animals with Foot-and-Mouth Disease Begins in Aradippou

The burial of animals from a livestock unit in Aradippou, where cases of foot-and-mouth disease were detected, began today. The unit numbers over 4,000 sheep and goats, and the burial will be carried out according to the protocol of the Veterinary Services. At the same time, the vaccination of sheep and goats in the area is expected to begin. The Mayor of Aradippou, Christodoulos Partou, stated that the local authorities are available to farmers and veterinarians to help where needed. So far, no new cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected. The need to protect pig farms was highlighted, as pigs reproduce the virus in large quantities if infected. Therefore, sheep and goats located near pig farms must be vaccinated. At a meeting held in Troulloi, farmers discussed the issue of financial compensation for animals that will be culled, as well as an incident where a farmer questioned the results of the tests for his herd.
