Belgian Police Raid European Commission over €900 Million Property Sale Investigation

Belgian police raided the European Commission's offices in Brussels as part of an investigation into potential irregularities surrounding the sale of EU properties worth approximately €900 million. The investigations focus on transactions that took place during Johannes Hahn's tenure as Budget Commissioner. The investigation is being conducted by the European Public Prosecutor's Office and concerns 23 buildings purchased by the Belgian state investment fund SFPIM in 2024. The European Commission had stated that the sales process was transparent and in compliance with EU regulations. The European Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that it is collecting evidence but has not provided further details to avoid jeopardizing the investigation. OLAF and the Belgian police have not commented on the matter, while the European Commission, SFPIM, and Johannes Hahn have yet to issue an official statement.
