Banana Growers in Paphos Express Concern for the Future of the Crop

Banana growers in Paphos are expressing strong concern for the future of the crop due to reduced water supply. During a meeting of farmers and banana growers in Peyeia, the negative effects of reduced water supply on production and banana quality were highlighted, leading to low incomes. Despite the repair of the Mavrokolypos dam and the accumulation of satisfactory amounts of water, the request for the expansion of desalination units in Kouklia and Potima was repeated, in order to fully cover the water supply needs of Paphos and release water from the dams for agriculture. In addition, the operation of the desalination unit in the Polis Chrysochous district was proposed to utilize the boreholes.
