Axios: Trump Administration Plans Steps for Talks with Iran - The 6 Conditions

The Trump administration is considering steps towards potential peace negotiations with Iran, despite ongoing military tensions. According to Axios, Washington is formulating a framework for talks, with key terms including the resumption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the limitation of Iran's nuclear program, and the reduction of support for Tehran's regional allies. Close associates of Trump, such as Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, are involved in the discussions, while countries like Egypt, Qatar, and the United Kingdom are acting as intermediaries. The Iranian side appears willing to negotiate, but is setting strict conditions, such as a ceasefire and economic compensation. The US is seeking specific commitments from Iran, such as the suspension of the missile program, zero uranium enrichment, and the dismantling of nuclear facilities. Additionally, they are requesting strict international supervision and arms control agreements in the region, as well as the cessation of funding for groups such as Hezbollah and the Houthis. However, Iran has rejected several of these conditions in the past, pointing out that negotiations are difficult due to previous US military actions. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has stated that the normalization of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz requires the cessation of attacks by the US and Israel.
