Australia: Third Gas Facility Shuts Down Due to Cyclone – Pressures on Global Energy Market

The global energy market is facing new disruptions due to the shutdown of another major gas processing facility in Western Australia, caused by a tropical cyclone. Woodside Energy has halted production at the Karratha gas plant, a key hub for the country's natural gas processing. This shutdown adds to existing outages at two other large LNG facilities owned by Chevron Australia, also due to the same cyclone. The simultaneous shutdown of multiple facilities in one of the world’s major LNG exporters is likely to further strain the already pressured market, combined with the impacts of the conflict in the Middle East, increasing uncertainty and potentially leading to new price increases.
