Audit Office Called to Investigate Paphos Municipality Finances Following Faidonos Case

The Audit Office has been called to investigate the finances of the Paphos Municipality for the last 10 years, following the suspension of Faidonas Faidonos, after three complaints. The acting mayor of Paphos, Angelos Onisiforou, stated that he informed the Audit Office to carry out the necessary checks in order to safeguard his position and the institution. Mr. Onisiforou mentioned that he took over the mayoralty with the known events and that he requested the audit for security reasons. Mr. Onisiforou explained that he did not have specific duties as a deputy mayor and that he had not been assigned responsibilities by the previous mayor, except for some small projects, which led him to not have a full knowledge of the Municipality's finances. He also stated that he was not aware of any audit by the Audit Office in 2023, as stated by Odysseus Michailidis. The Legal Service has also been informed of the situation. This move comes following the reform of Local Government and the changes it brought to the roles and responsibilities of deputy mayors. The Audit Office will examine the financial data of the Paphos Municipality for the period 2014-2024, in order to determine the legality of expenditures and the proper management of public funds. This development is expected to shed light on possible irregularities and reveal the truth about the finances of the Paphos Municipality.
