Athens to Greet New Year with Silent Fireworks

Published December 31, 2025, 16:23

Athens and other major cities in Greece will greet the new year with silent fireworks, in an effort to reduce noise pollution and protect companion animals. The use of silent fireworks offers an impressive spectacle with colorful flashes, without the loud noises caused by traditional ones. The initiative comes from the Special Secretariat for the Protection of Companion Animals and is implemented in cooperation with KEDE, and is supported by various animal welfare and environmental organizations, such as PFPPO, FOE, ANIMA, WWF Greece and others. The Municipality of Athens has already announced that it will use silent fireworks to avoid panic and disturbance of animals during the celebrations. This move is a positive development, as it combines festive mood with respect for the environment and animal welfare.
