‘ANGUISH – Diamantis’ Exhibition Travels to Thessaloniki

The ‘Anguish – Diamantis’ exhibition will be hosted at the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki from March 29 to May 31, 2026. The exhibition, focusing on the ‘Anguish’ series by Cypriot artist Adamantios Diamantis, is co-organized by the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, the Press and Information Office, and the Consulate General of the Republic of Cyprus in Thessaloniki. The exhibition was initially presented in Nicosia in 2018 and is now being transferred to Thessaloniki, a city that Diamantis loved and where his iconic work ‘The World of Cyprus’ was housed for over three decades. The ‘Anguish’ series represents a creative innovation for the artist, inspired by the historical events that marked Cyprus in the 20th century, such as the struggle for independence, intercommunal unrest, and the Turkish invasion. Diamantis sought a new artistic language, influenced by artists such as Pablo Picasso. The exhibition includes five of the eight works from the ‘Anguish’ series, as well as sketches, offering a complete picture of Diamantis’ artistic process. His works, although not directly depicting the threat, imply anguish and uncertainty, making them topical and timeless. In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to see an excerpt from the new episode of the ‘Art in the city’ film series, dedicated to Adamantios Diamantis.
