ALMA and Charalambidou: Cooperation Nearly Sealed, Despite Reservations

According to statements from ALMA party leader Odysseus Michaelides, the collaboration with Irene Charalambidou is in its final stages, with only procedural issues remaining to be finalized. Ms. Charalambidou has expressed a desire to cooperate, but has raised some reservations regarding the party's statutes, specifically a provision concerning the mandatory membership of candidates. Mr. Michaelides assured that ALMA is willing to consider adjustments to the articles of association, clarifying that these are not being made for a single individual, but as part of a process of political maturity and adaptation. A provision requiring prior membership of candidates has already been amended, allowing for registration after election. At the same time, Mr. Michaelides dismissed accusations of delays in completing the agreement, emphasizing that there is no intention to avoid responsibility. He stated that final decisions are expected within the week by the party's Secretariat. It was also noted that even if someone is elected without being a member, they will not be able to participate in party bodies, but will have full participation in the parliamentary group. Finally, Mr. Michaelides reiterated ALMA's commitment to transparency and accountability, mentioning the two-term limit for elected positions and the strict incompatibility provisions, which aim to separate roles and avoid conflicts of interest. The cooperation with Ms. Charalambidou will not jeopardize these fundamental principles of the party.
