Ali Saath of Palestinian Authority to Head Gaza Transition Committee

Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey announced that former Palestinian Authority Deputy Minister Ali Saath will head the transitional committee that will govern the Gaza Strip. The formation of the committee was described as a “significant development” for consolidating stability and improving humanitarian conditions in the Palestinian territory, following the fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. Saath previously served as Deputy Minister responsible for the development of industrial zones in the West Bank. The remaining members of the committee were selected by Nikolai Mladenov, a former UN Special Envoy for the Middle East, who will represent the Peace Council in Gaza. The committee includes representatives from the private sector and non-governmental organizations. According to reports, a further announcement regarding the Peace Council is expected in Davos next week, where Donald Trump will assume the presidency, in accordance with the US peace plan. This move signals an effort to restore governance in Gaza after the recent conflicts and Israel’s withdrawal from the territory.
