Alexis Ziras Honored in Cyprus

The Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Culture is honoring critic and scholar Alexis Ziras with a scientific conference and the publication of his work, “Interpretive Approaches to Cypriot Poetry, 1880-2025.” This initiative recognizes Ziras’s significant contribution to Cypriot and Panhellenic literature, as well as his long-standing collaborations with numerous Cypriot intellectuals since the 1980s. Alexis Ziras, born in Athens in 1945, has had a rich career as a critic, philologist, and researcher of modern Greek and European literature. He has worked in various fields, including technology companies, publishing houses, and ERT, where he was an art program consultant for twelve years. Furthermore, Ziras has served as President of the Society of Writers and the State Literary Awards Committee of the Greek Ministry of Culture, as well as a member of similar committees in Cyprus. His contribution to criticism and literature has been recognized with significant awards, such as the State Essay-Study Award and the Petros Haris Award of the Academy of Athens. The conference in his honor will take place at the Artos Cultural Center in Nicosia on March 27 and 28, 2026. This event marks a significant recognition of Alexis Ziras’s work and his lasting impact on the cultural landscape of Cyprus and Greece.
