Albania: Environmental Groups Against Trump's Son-in-Law's Tourism Project on Island

Around 40 environmental organizations from 28 countries are calling for the immediate halt of the tourism project being promoted by Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, on the island of Sazan in Albania. The organizations express serious concerns about the potential impact on the biodiversity and sensitive ecosystems of the island and the surrounding marine area, which is a national marine park. The project, worth 1.2 billion euros, plans to transform the former military island into a luxury tourist destination. The organizations point out that interventions on 450 acres threaten significant species, such as the Mediterranean monk seal Monachus monachus, which is endangered, as well as 36 other marine species. The organizations are calling on Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Minister of Environment to suspend the project and include the land areas of the island in the national marine park. The Vlora region, where the island is located, is already facing intense tourism development and pressure on the coast. Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, visited the area this week accompanied by architects, met with Edi Rama and discussed investment programs considered strategically important for Albania.
