AKEL Calls on President to Honor Commitment to Student Grants

AKEL is criticizing the government over the increase in State Student Care, arguing that the proposed increase of 10 million euros is insufficient to address inflation and substantially support students. Christos Christofides, a representative of AKEL, emphasized that the President of the Republic had committed to an increase of 14 million euros and that the current proposal falls short by 4 million. These additional 4 million could be used to double the increase for students from families with an income below 44,000 euros and to cover the needs of large families. AKEL believes that the current increase is negligible, around three euros per week, and does not meet the real need to support students during a period of inflation. The party is committed to continuing to push for the fulfillment of the initial commitments.
