Agriculture Ministry Denies Farmer's Claim: “No Order to Break Down Doors”

The Ministry of Agriculture vehemently denies a farmer's claim that Minister Maria Panagiotou ordered officials to break down doors at livestock pens. The Ministry emphasizes that the Minister only requests the implementation of the law. It recalls that, according to the Animal Health Law, official veterinarians have the right to enter any premises where activities regulated by the law are carried out, to exercise their powers. The denial comes after a protest by farmers at the Presidential Palace, where the farmer made the claim. The Ministry reiterates its commitment to enforcing legislation to protect animal health and consumer safety. It is worth noting that 44 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease have been recorded and over 21,000 goats and sheep have been culled as part of the disease control measures.
