Agriculture Minister: Aim is to Avoid Water Cuts Despite Drought Conditions

The Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panagiotou, assured that the government is working to avoid water cuts, even in drought conditions. The Ministry's strategy is based on three pillars: strengthening desalination, improving the distribution network, and rational use by citizens and businesses. The goal is to increase the number of desalination plants to a double-digit number by the end of the year, with 14 mobile units already in operation. The Minister responded to criticism regarding environmental impacts, emphasizing that strict environmental terms are observed. In addition, she referred to the utilization of 90% of recycled water for irrigation and efforts to reduce water leaks in water networks, which in some areas reach 40%.
