Administrative Court Rejects Phaedon's Request to Suspend Suspension

The Administrative Court has rejected Phaedon Phaedonos's request to suspend his suspension from the position of Mayor of Paphos. The decision was based on the fact that the Police investigation into an allegation of rape against the applicant concerns a very serious matter and the continuation of his duties would be contrary to the public interest. The judge emphasized that, according to the law, when a felony punishable by imprisonment of three years or more is investigated, the mayor is automatically suspended from the day of publication of the relevant notification. In Phaedonos's case, the notification was published on February 5th, so his suspension has been in effect since then. Phaedonos had filed an appeal to annul the suspension decision, but also a request to suspend its execution until the final hearing of the case. The court rejected the suspension request, finding that the conditions for issuing a temporary order were not met. The case concerns the allegation of rape being investigated by the Police and the Minister of Interior's decision to suspend Phaedonos, taking into account the seriousness of the allegations and the need to protect the public interest.
