6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Peru, Injuring Dozens

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck Peru, causing at least 25 injuries. The earthquake occurred offshore near the city of Chimbote, in the Ancash region. The General Hospital in Chimbote sustained damage, as did schools and homes. Peru is located in a highly seismic zone, known as the Pacific Ring of Fire, and has experienced devastating earthquakes in the past, such as the 1970 earthquake that resulted in 67,000 deaths.
