A 54-year-old man hospitalized with the flu has died, bringing the total number of deaths to 13 since the beginning of this year's epidemic season. Deputy General Director of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Elisavet Konstantinou, stated that the flu has surpassed the age “barrier” of the elderly, as most victims were over 80 years old with multiple comorbidities. The last six deaths were recorded in recent days, with five occurring over the weekend and one yesterday. Dr. Konstantinou stressed that the situation is manageable, but there is pressure on the healthcare system, both in the public and private sectors. According to her, the epidemic appears to have reached its peak and a slight recession has begun, with a decrease in cases and hospitalizations. There is an adequate supply of antiviral drugs and diagnostic tests, and there has been a strong response to vaccination, with over 145,000 vaccinations administered.
