51-Year-Old Sentenced to 13 Years for Sexual Offenses Against Woman

A 51-year-old man was sentenced to 13 years in prison by the Permanent Criminal Court of Famagusta for a series of serious sexual offenses against a 26-year-old foreign woman, committed between July and September 2023 in Ayia Napa and Paralimni. The defendant was found guilty of 15 out of the 16 charges against him, including eight counts of rape. The court emphasized the seriousness of the offenses and the systematic nature of the defendant's behavior, noting that in cases of multiple rapes, sentences are high. Cypriot and English case law, as well as the defendant's criminal record, which included previous convictions for other offenses, were taken into consideration. The sentence was imposed after a lengthy trial and concerns concurrent prison sentences, with a maximum sentence of 13 years for the rape charges. This case highlights the seriousness of sexual offenses and the need for strict punishment of perpetrators.
