€1.74 Million Raised for Limassol Fire Victims

Donations for supporting those affected by the fires in Limassol have reached €1.741.849, with the participation of 1,469 individuals and legal entities. The largest contribution, €200,000, came from a single donation. The General Accounting Office of the Republic has published detailed information on the donations and their allocation, assuring transparency and accountability in the aid provision process. The donations were categorized into three groups: over €50,000 (€775,000 total from 7 legal entities), between €10,000 and €50,000 (€611,500 from 27 donations), and under €10,000 (€355,349 from 1,435 mostly citizens). This distribution demonstrates broad participation from various sources. The Government has separated the allocation of donations into two main pillars: the restoration and protection of affected areas. The use of €850,000 has already been approved for the purchase of 17 fire trucks, equipped with an autonomous fire suppression system, which will be donated to the Community Councils of the affected communities. The remaining balance of the special bank account, amounting to €891,849, will be distributed to the fire-affected communities based on criteria, giving them the opportunity to implement projects of their choice. This allows local communities to determine their own needs and contribute to the restoration of their areas.
