AKEL Proposes Workplace Safety Measures Following Fatal Accidents

AKEL has submitted a proposal to Parliament to strengthen workplace safety, reacting to two fatal and one serious work accidents that occurred within two days. The party expresses its condolences to the families of the victims and wishes for the recovery of the injured. AKEL argues that work accidents are not due to misfortune but to inadequate safety measures, intensification of work and indifference to the health and lives of workers. It accuses the state of apathy towards employer negligence that leads to deaths and injuries. The AKEL proposal focuses on two pillars: strengthening the staffing of the Labor Inspection Department for more checks and compulsory training of workers on safety and health issues from their first day of work. AKEL has already submitted a relevant bill on the subject. The party insists that workers should not be treated as statistics and calls on the government to respond to its proposal. It aims to protect the lives and dignity of workers, rejecting the idea that human life should be sacrificed for profit.
