“What Glitters Is Not Gold”: Theodoulos Papavasileiou Resigns from ALMA

Theodoulos Papavasileiou has announced his resignation from the ALMA political movement, citing a lack of transparency, violations of statutory procedures and behind-the-scenes negotiations. Mr. Papavasileiou, a founding member of ALMA, accuses the movement of selective transparency, “backdoor” agreements and a lack of respect for founding members. In his statement, Mr. Papavasileiou expresses his dissatisfaction with the way ALMA operates, arguing that it does not serve the principles of transparency and accountability it initially proclaimed. He also attributes a lack of acceptance and respect for the opinions of members who express different views. He specifically refers to issues such as the lack of transparency in the movement's donations, the violation of the statutes and internal rules, as well as the guidance of censorship on specific political parties. Mr. Papavasileiou states that his resignation is not due to personal ambitions, but to his need to remain faithful to his values and to his effort to support vulnerable groups in society. Mr. Papavasileiou states that he will continue to support candidates who promote the values of social justice and the protection of vulnerable citizens, regardless of their political camp.
