Parliament Sets Retirement Age and Rank Requirements for National Guard Leadership

The Parliament has approved amendments to legislation concerning the appointment, mandatory retirement age, and rights of the Chief and Deputy Chief of the National Guard. These amendments clarify the retirement age limit of 62 for officers holding the rank of Lieutenant General, which will also apply to the Chief and Deputy Chief if they are Army officers. It also stipulates that the rank of Brigadier General or Lieutenant General is required for the appointment of a Deputy Chief, with the possibility of promotion to Lieutenant General in the case of a Brigadier General appointment. Furthermore, it provides for the payment of any accrued leave entitlement to the officer appointed as Chief or Deputy Chief upon the expiration of their term. These amendments aim to comprehensively regulate matters relating to the leadership of the National Guard.
