Digital Advertising: Key to Sustainability and Competitiveness of SMEs in Cyprus

Digital advertising has become a critical factor for the sustainability and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Cyprus. Almost 49.4% of businesses in Cyprus use paid online advertising in 2024, a percentage higher than the EU average (32.6%). Cypriot businesses are leveraging advanced targeting techniques, such as geo-targeting (88.07%) and advertising based on content and user behavior. Digital advertising is closely linked to the other digital activities of businesses, with around 80% using social media and over 96% having broadband access. This allows for the integration of social ads into an overall marketing strategy and the effective use of digital media for promotion and sales. Although 49.4% of businesses use digital advertising, there is room for improvement, especially among smaller businesses. Digital advertising has already accounted for about 33% of total advertising expenditure in Cyprus, indicating a gradual shift from traditional forms of advertising. Investing in digital advertising is no longer just an option, but a necessary strategy for SMEs to remain competitive in Cyprus and in wider digital environments. Digital advertising is an important tool for the development and sustainability of businesses, offering targeted solutions for the promotion of products and services.
