Rainfall of the Weekend Brings Gold to Dams, Says Water Development Department Spokesman

The rainfall of the weekend has brought a significant increase in the fullness of the dams, with the technical engineer of the Water Development Department, Marios Chatzikostis, describing the rains as "gold". The inflow of water amounted to 9.2 million cubic meters, resulting in the overflow of the Klerou and Pomos dams. Despite the improvement, the overall picture remains worrying, as the fullness of the dams is at 17.2%, significantly lower than last year's 25.9%. Mr. Chatzikostis stressed that the situation cannot be considered sustainable and that additional solutions are being considered, such as the creation of new desalination units. The reduced fullness of the dams has a direct impact on the environment and biodiversity, as well as on the drilling of communities. Despite the concern, cautious optimism is expressed for the overall hydrological year, as the amount of rain that fell was satisfactory and concentrated in the mountains, where the contribution to the supply of dams is greater. However, the amount of rain that fell in February is less than normal, highlighting the need for continuous monitoring of the situation and taking measures to address water scarcity.
