Rainfall Boosts Cyprus Dams, But Levels Remain Lower Than Last Year

Rainfall over the weekend has brought a significant increase in the fullness of Cyprus' dams, with an inflow of 9.2 million cubic meters of water. The Klerou and Pomos dams have already overflowed, while the Kalopanagiotis dam had overflowed earlier. Despite the improvement, the overall dam capacity remains lower compared to the same period last year, reaching 17.2% compared to 25.9% last year. Authorities are considering additional solutions, such as the creation of new desalination units, as the current situation is not considered sustainable. Reduced fullness affects the environment, biodiversity and boreholes.
