Christodoulides: “First Thought is Complete Abolition of the Fund, Haralambou’s Resignation an Act of Confidence”

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that his first thought regarding the Independent Social Support Fund is its complete abolition, while ensuring that students are not left uncovered. This statement was made in response to questions from journalists in Limassol, regarding the video that leaked last week. The President described the resignation of his Chief of Staff, Charalambos Charalambou, as an act of confidence. Furthermore, President Christodoulides mentioned that there is no problem in publishing the list of donors to the Fund, as long as it is done in accordance with the law. He emphasized that he is approaching the case with absolute seriousness and that the competent state authorities are called upon to utilize all available tools for a full investigation. The President also stated that there is assistance from foreign countries and the European Union in the investigation. He declared that he does not underestimate or downplay the case, but treats it with the required seriousness.
