President Christodoulides: Great Potential for Cypriot Defense Industry

President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, expressed his confidence in the great potential of the Cypriot defense industry, predicting that it will significantly contribute to the country's GDP in the coming years. During a meeting with the Cypriot Defense Industry Council, the President emphasized the importance of institutionalizing the Council and strengthening the extroversion of Cypriot companies in the sector. He also referred to the opportunities created by SAFE and the 15% clause in equipment purchases, as well as his planned participation in the Athens exhibition to support Cypriot companies. Defense Minister, Vasilis Palmas, described the future of the defense industry as excellent and stressed the importance of coordination between the executive branch and the advisory body to address challenges and take advantage of opportunities, especially in relation to the SAFE regulation. He emphasized that the development of the defense industry will contribute to the defense shielding of the country and the strengthening of the Cypriot economy. According to the Minister of Defense, there are approximately 30 companies operating in the field of the defense industry in Cyprus, many of which are innovative. The government is committed to strengthening the defense industry, as the benefits that will arise will be multiple. The government considers the strengthening of the Cypriot defense industry as a top priority, recognizing the significant potential of this sector to contribute to the economy and security of the country. This effort is being made with coordinated actions and long-term planning.
