Christodoulides in Bahrain: Strengthening Cooperation with Gulf Countries a Priority

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, during his official visit to Bahrain, emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU and the Gulf countries, as well as bilateral relations between Cyprus and Bahrain. This visit is the President Christodoulides' first bilateral visit abroad since assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU. During meetings with the King of Bahrain, President Christodoulides expressed his satisfaction with the progress of bilateral cooperation in areas such as defense, security, trade, culture, education, and tourism. The mutual desire for further strengthening of relations was confirmed. The visit coincides with Bahrain's presidency of the Gulf Cooperation Council, creating opportunities for closer cooperation at regional and international levels. A total of nine agreements and memoranda of understanding were signed in areas such as education, culture, tourism, and technology. Furthermore, the intention to open a Cypriot Embassy in Bahrain and to organize a business forum between the chambers of commerce of the two countries was announced. President Christodoulides' visit marks a new phase in Cyprus-Bahrain relations and Cyprus' efforts to enhance its role in the Gulf region.
