Στην ακύρωση των Γκραν Πρι της Formula 1 που θα πραγματοποιούνταν στο Μπαχρέιν και τη Σαουδική Αραβία τον Απρίλιο προχωρά η διοργάνωση καθώς ο πόλεμος στη Μέση Ανατολή μαίνεται.
Μάλιστα, οι αγώνες που θα ακυρωθούν δεν πρόκειται να αναβληθούν για τον επόμενο μήνα. Σύμφωνα με πηγές του Reuters, είναι απίθανο να επαναπρογραμματιστούν εντός της χρονιάς λόγω των logistics και των καιρικών συνθηκών. Η δήλωση πάντως της διοργάνωσης δεν απέκλεισε ρητά την ακύρωση.
«Ήταν μια δύσκολη απόφαση, δυστυχώς είναι η σωστή σε αυτή τη φάση, δεδομένης της τρέχουσας κατάστασης στη Μέση Ανατολή» δήλωσε ο διευθύνων σύμβουλος της Formula 1, Στέφανο Ντομενικάλι.
Η πίστα Sakhir στην έρημο του Μπαχρέιν επρόκειτο να φιλοξενήσει τον τέταρτο γύρο της σεζόν στις 12 Απριλίου, με την πίστα Jeddah Corniche της Σαουδικής Αραβίας να ακολουθεί το επόμενο Σαββατοκύριακο. Ιδιαίτερο χαρακτηριστικό των αγώνων αυτών είναι ότι διεξάγονται τη νύχτα.
