Photovoltaics: Who Loses Stored Energy and When is the Next Reset?

The President of SEAPEK, Phanos Karantonis, explained that the resetting of stored kilowatt-hours from residential photovoltaics is a provision of the 2024 legislation and will benefit citizens. This process, requested by consumers, will now take place every three years instead of annually, as previously. The clearing dates for 2024 are 2026, 2029, and 2032, and apply to those who installed or applied for installation of a system by December 31st. This means that those who install their systems within the first half of 2026 will see the excess energy cleared in 2029, either in February or March, depending on the billing cycle. The resetting of stored kilowatt-hours refers to the return of energy to the grid without considering its value. The change in legislation aims to simplify the process and reduce bureaucracy for citizens. Overall, the new regulation is expected to facilitate the use of photovoltaic systems by household consumers, offering them greater flexibility and transparency in managing the generated energy.
