Soaring Gas Cylinder Prices: €25 for 10kg – 33% Increase in One Month

The price of a 10kg gas cylinder has soared to €25, marking a 33.4% increase compared to February 2026 and a 41% increase compared to March 2025. This increase is causing concern for households and businesses, as gas is a vital fuel for heating and cooking. The price increase is mainly due to geopolitical unrest and the conflict in Iran, which have caused international fuel prices to rise. Specifically, butane, which accounts for 80% of the gas mixture, has increased by 77% since the beginning of January, while propane, which accounts for 20%, has increased by 47%. Cyprus, fully dependent on international markets for gas supply, cannot avoid the impact of international prices. VLPG Plant Ltd, a joint venture between Petrolina, EKO, Intergaz and Synergas, manages the import and distribution of gas in Cyprus, but the high cost of importing raw materials is passed on to the final price. Despite efforts to manage costs, the increase in international prices of butane and propane makes the increase in gas prices for consumers inevitable.
