New Prison System, Coast Guard, and 'Cypriot FBI' Planned

The Minister of Justice, Kostas Fytiris, presented plans for a new Prison System, a Coast Guard, and a service that will function as a 'Cypriot FBI'. The new Prison System will be built on 500,000 sq.m. of state land and will have a capacity of 1250 places, according to the standards of the Council of Europe. A five-year transitional period is planned with nine actions, such as the deactivation of mobile phones in prisons and the installation of a network to prevent the entry of objects with drones. In addition, a Critical Infrastructure Protection Team will be created to protect airports, fiber optic networks, and energy centers. The Coast Guard will be independent of the Police and will monitor the coastline and the Cypriot EEZ. Finally, the Minister commented on the statements of the President of the 'ISOTITA' Police Branch regarding threats, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a high level of public discourse.
