Domokos Prison Inmate Claims Self-Defense in Murder of Lifelong Prisoner

The 38-year-old Bulgarian inmate accused of murdering the 47-year-old lifetime prisoner at Domokos Prison claims he acted in self-defense. In his testimony to the Lamia prosecutor, he alleged that the victim summoned him to the guard and “used” him because a visit to the guard must be made by two prisoners. According to the accused, the victim pulled out a gun and threatened the guard, causing him to react to protect the guard and himself. The 38-year-old's lawyer stated that his client acted to save the guard's life first and then his own. He also claimed that the victim was the “boss” of the prison and controlled everything, and that the 38-year-old was asked by the victim to accompany him to the guard to discuss his extradition to the Netherlands. The accused requested a reconstruction of the murder within the prison walls, so that his claims could be proven. At the same time, the prison guard is also expected to testify. According to information, the guard had found a mobile phone in the victim’s cell and had requested his transfer to another prison. The case has caused turmoil in the correctional system and is expected to lead to investigations into the circumstances under which the crime was committed and how the prison operates.
