Dams: Only This Will Fill Them – What an Expert from the Water Development Department Says

Dam levels in Cyprus remain low, as recent rainfall has contributed little to their increase. According to Marios Chatzikostis, a First-Class Technical Engineer at the Water Development Department, the situation is “tragic” and only a good February or March with torrential rains can improve the picture. The inflow of water recorded in January was very small compared to needs, and rainfall in Greece did not affect Cyprus. To improve the situation, a significant increase in rainfall is required, similar to that recorded in Attica, but at a rate that avoids disasters. Snowfall helps maintain the flow of rain, but the ground has already absorbed enough water.
