Von der Leyen: Brussels Will Find Way for EU Loan to Ukraine

The European Union will find a way to disburse the agreed-upon €90 billion loan to Ukraine, despite continued opposition from Hungary, assured European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The statement came after the conclusion of the summit in Brussels, where EU leaders failed to persuade Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to lift his veto. Budapest's stance was condemned as “unacceptable” by EU leaders, while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz accused Hungary of an “outrageous act of dishonesty” that would have negative consequences for the EU's position in the world. The Commission has been instructed to explore ways to disburse the loan despite the veto.
