Dutch Students Research Underwater Cultural Heritage in Cyprus

A group of students from the University of Nijmegen in the Netherlands visited the THALASSA Museum in Cyprus to conduct research on underwater cultural heritage. The research focused on the Kyrenia ship and Kyrenia II, examining ancient shipbuilding technology and the symbolic value of the ships to Cyprus. Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that the original shipwreck is located in occupied Kyrenia, which gives the ship a strong historical, political, and emotional charge. The presentation of Kyrenia II at the museum aims to connect the past with the present and the future, highlighting the importance of the sea as a space for communication and cultural exchange, as well as the need to protect underwater cultural heritage.
