Turkey Seeks to Avoid Involvement in Iran-Israel Conflict

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that Turkey seeks to remain outside the escalating war in the Middle East while simultaneously attempting to maintain open communication channels with all involved parties. Fidan mentioned that Ankara is in contact with the US, Europe, and countries in the region, and assessed that Iran remains open to diplomatic contacts despite the tension. He expressed the view that the way the war started and escalated is wrong and a huge mistake. Furthermore, he emphasized that there is currently no serious initiative to restart negotiations between the US and Iran, but he believes that Iran is open to parallel talks. Fidan communicates regularly with his Iranian counterpart and believes that Tehran feels betrayed, as it was attacked while in negotiations. Turkey, despite its military capabilities, wishes to maintain a defensive stance and avoid direct involvement in the conflict.
